I learned a lot from this activity!
It was fun but A LOT of work to do for each boy! The first day I had the boys just paint their boards and leave them to dry. Once they were dry I made a heart pattern, put dots around the edge about 1/2 inch apart and then hammered in the nails which took a lot longer than I thought! I used half inch nails so next year I think I will use smaller nails and do a smaller heart with a quote and maybe use small yarn instead of string (I am not sure yet). The boys also had a really hard time doing the string themselves and needed one on one guidance the whole time. I also had to re-hammer a ton of nails since they were not hammered in enough the first time. so it took about 15-20 minutes per boy.
The boys WERE super proud of their hearts though and it was fun to watch them show off their art in the end. :)
