Obstacle course, stamping and math

Today the sun began to shine again so we took advantage of the beautiful weather and went out side for our obstacle course today and did a big stamping art activity.

The kids are enjoying math right now as we add to our math notebooks.
Today we added numbers 6-10 and although it is hard to see, if you look closely at their pages, you will see they have written out the number 9 below the number I wrote for them.

The kids world... and frogs

The theme for this month is "The World I Live In" and so,
for todays activities, we started with books about frogs. This one being one of the favorites.

This book gave us a great idea for a spare the moment Gross Motor activity (or PE) in which we answered the questions in frog book by showing that we can hop, dance, stretch, and croak like a frog. We also added frog tag into the activity as well.

For our science and sensory today our frog theme continued as the kids learned about the life of a frog and played with frogs in a "Pond" (aka, water beads and lily pads).

For literacy today we learned about the world in the eyes of the kids. We did this by showing our world pictures to each other and gluing them into their notebooks. We then told stories about how our life began (or something about their lives). The kids LOVED that activity as we sat in a circle and listened to each other. We started our stories "once upon a time their was a little (girl or boy) named..." and then continued with something about their life and world, and ending in "the end" or "and they lived happily ever after". I wish I could have taped their stories because they were the best!!

For math we started our notebooks with numbers 1-5. We traced the numbers and then added something in the notebook representing that number. Usually we go outside and collect items but with the rain today we decided to use stamps showing something from outside :)

Pirates, Pretzels, Print and More!

The last two days of preschool have been so much fun!
To kick off our day 2, we read some Pirate books (and a princess book) on good manners and added  good manners cards to our literacy book.

To add onto our shape making play in math we made pretzels together and had each child make the dough into different shapes, the kids LOVED this activity, and especially loved eating the end result!

Day three started with a print rich environment activity, went into a twirling PE break which led to snack and free play which then went into our marble math and ended with knocking things over with our pendulum for science. Very eventful and VERY fun!

(Weaving was our opener activity for the day)

UP UP UP!!! First day of preschool 2017!!

Our first day was a huge hit!
The look on each child's face when they saw their own hot air balloon was priceless and made me remember why I love teaching so much:)

The first group of pictures is the preschool room and prep for our new year. It is so much fun having my own preschool room now and a huge blessing, as it is so much easier to prep early and have it stay that way (instead of moving around my kitchen daily depending on what we were doing, like last year).

To begin our big day I took pictures of each child while the others played with their letter names
Charlotte was so excited she joined in as well

For literacy we read the book (and sang it and listened to it, lol) UP UP UP while the kids sat in their hot air balloons to take a ride in the world around them.

For math we pulled out the spindle and worked on the numbers 1-10

For art we colored names so they can play with them or put them up on the wall to see and work on (names and letters) when they are home.

Overall it was an amazing day filled with smiles and laughter (mixed in with learning of course) and I can't wait for Thursday!!
